Expect an assortment of festive music.  Expect the poprawiny (Polish for party after the party).  Furthermore, expect lots of color, as the Chicago Cub’s and Pepsi team up to celebrate the first Polish Heritage Night at historic Wrigley Field.  The Cubs will host the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, August 17, at 7:05 p.m. CST.  Also, it will all benefit the Chicago based Polish American Association.

The brightest stars (gwiazda swiecic) will be on the field before the game.  ALIZMA, comprised of Polish triplets Aleksandra, Izabela and Monika, will perform their unique and popular violin act before the game.  The trio will perform three of their signature pieces, which include vocals and violin.

The theme of this year’s festival is “Home Grown” and will focus on local businesses, entertainment and products.

In 2009 the festival welcomed over 1/4 million people from throughout the Midwest.  The festival features great food, including ethnic specialties and imported Polish beer.  Other attractions include crafts, ethnic dancing, fashion shows, art displays, and a Children Zone with crafts, games, face painting and a carnival.

I don’t know where President Obama spent his July 4th holiday, but it’s too bad he didn’t make it to Ross and Roni (nee Przepiora) Hazelton’s home in Glen Arbor, about 45 minutes north of Traverse City on the shore of Lake Michigan.

He would have been among a hundred of Ross and Roni’s closest friends enjoying a Hazelton tradition of many years, a gathering in their front yard to view the annual Independence Day parade that stretched for nearly an hour over a three-mile course down M22 from Glen Lake to Glen Arbor.

David Olszewski-Troiano: Byłem bardzo zadowolony z konkursowego występu chóru mieszanego.  Ich oddanie i zaangażowanie; śpiewali najlepiej odkąd po raz pierwszy ich słyszałem.

Chłopięcy chór z Warszawy „Cantores Minores” będzie w sierpniu gościł w naszej metropolii.

Chór został założony w 1990 roku przez obecnego dyrygenta Josepha A. Hertera.  Od 1991 roku chór był i jest nadal związany z warszawską Bazyliką Archikatedralną Świętego Jana Chrzciciela.  Przez lata swojej działalności chór osiągnął wiele sukcesów artystycznych; koncertował w 19 krajach na całym świecie; brał udział w 28 festiwalach zarówno w Polsce, jak i zagranicą, otrzymywał czołowe nagrody na międzynarodowych konkursach, m.in. w Lecco (Włochy), Moskwie i Pradze.

US Polonia ever faithful to Law and Justice

WARSAW - Bronisław Komorowski, the candidate of the ruling pro-business Civic Platform (Platforma Obywatelska = PO) party narrowly won Poland’s presidential runoff, defeating the head of the conservative Law and Justice (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość = PiS) Jarosław Kaczyński.  But the second round of the presidential election, held two weeks after no candidate managed to win 50 percent of the vote in the first round, turned out to be a true cliff-hanger to the very end and beyond.

On Wednesday, June 16, the American Polish Century Club (APCC) of Sterling Heights presented its annual Scholarship recipients.  The event took place at the APCC’s headquarters in Sterling Heights (33204 Maple Lane).

This year scholarships were presented to six outstanding students.  They are: Anna Cwalina, Ashley Krotkiewicz, Lauren McNichol, Katherine Nietzke, Chelsea Young and Sarah Smolinski.

Arizona’s top police officials issued a stern warning last week to its officers in a training video as the July 29 date approaches for Arizona’s toughest-in-the-nation illegal immigration law to go into effect.

Arizona’s law generally requires officers enforcing another law - like speeding or jaywalking - to question a person’s immigration status if there’s a reasonable suspicion that the person is in the country illegally.

W Stanach Zjednoczonych drugą turę wyborów prezydenckich wygrał Jarosław Kaczyński, który otrzymał 26491 głosów; na Bronisława Komorowskiego zagłosowało 10514 osób.

W głosowaniu, które odbyło się w sobotę, wzięło 37 336 Polaków przebywających w USA.

Kaczyński wygrał głosowanie w okręgu wyborczym w Chicago i Nowym Jorku.  W okręgach Waszyngton i Los Angeles więcej głosów otrzymał kandydat PO.

Jarosław Kaczyński zdecydowanie pokonał Bronisława Komorowskiego w okręgu wyborczym w Chicago.  Prezes PiS otrzymał tam 15042 głosów, podczas gdy kandydat PO - 3292.

Wątpliwe zwycięstwo dla PO, dwuznaczna porażka dla PiS.

WARSZAWA - Po ogłoszeniu pierwszych szacunkowych wyników prezydenckiej dogrywki wyborczej skontaktowałem się z analitykiem, prof. Mikołajem Cześnikiem z Instytutu Studiów Politycznych PAN, który stwierdził, że kilkuprocentowe zwycięstwo Bronisława Komorowskiego było do przewidzenia.  To samo powiedział piszącemu te słowa politolog prof. Kazimierz Kik, który powiedział, że to potwierdza profesjonalizm socjologów prognozujących wyniki na podstawie sondaży, które pod koniec kampanii pokazywały zbliżone wyniki obu rywali.

DETROIT - The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association teamed up with the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame to highlight sports excellence.  It was at the HockeyTown Café and veteran baseball broadcaster Tom Paciorek, presented along with Greg Luzinski and new inductee Kristy Kowal.

Were you there on July 22, 1885, on Detroit’s east side, on St. Aubin Avenue between Forest and Garfield streets for the laying of the cornerstone for SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary?

Will you be there - at Orchard Lake, about 25 miles northwest of the cornerstone-laying site - on July 22, 2010, exactly 125 years ago, for the quasquicentennial anniversary of the founding of the Orchard Lake Schools, that comprise the seminary, St. Mary’s Preparatory and a department with the unimaginative title of the Orchard Lake Polish Mission?
